Winners of Opening Doors Announced!

04th Aug 2020

Opening Doors Competition

We're delighted to announce the winners of Opening Doors. These brilliant early-career artists will each develop a new play in our theatre this autumn, with support, space, mentoring, dramaturgy and expenses from us and the Carne Trust.

We received 140 applications from 280 artists for OpeningDoors. We gave written or video feedback on request to over 80 applications, & 14 pairs of applicants interviewed with Vik Sivalingam, Cat Robey and Tom Littler. We met so many brilliant artists and learned so much.

Winning playwright Amma-Afi Osei & director Darren Sinnott are working on a new family drama called Landin' set during the Brixton and Tottenham riots of 1985. It's already a remarkable piece of writing and we cannot wait to see how it develops.

Winning playwright and actor Chirag Benedict Lobo is working with composer and percussionist Ben Clark to create a new play called The Public Servant about the Indian police force. We're looking forward to supporting this bold, original, exciting show.

Winning performers Krystal Campbell and Camila Robinson-Rodriguez are fusing movement and text to create a piece called Dirty Laundry about the fast fashion industry. It's formally inventive and daring, and we're excited to work on it.

NEW! Creative Associates

We're also excited to announce the appointment of 16 Creative Associates at Jermyn Street Theatre. We think they all have a big role to play in the theatre of tomorrow, and we're delighted they're joining our artistic family. From now until the end of 2021, we'll be supporting these amazing performers, theatre-makers, directors, writers and designers in a variety of ways. Office & rehearsal space, tickets, mentoring, fundraising advice, dramaturgy, & opportunities for freelancing & programming.

Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be introducing our audience to our 16 new Creative Associates and their work. We're so looking forward to working with, learning from, and supporting these brilliant artists. The new JST Creative Associates are: Gabriella Bird, Layla Bradbeer, Krystal Campbell, Ben Clark, Terri Donovan, Somebody Jones, Hana Keegan, Hannah Kumari, Chirag Benedict Lobo, Amma-Afi Osei, Theresa Pine, Elliot Pritchard, Camila Robinson-Rodriguez, Darren Sinnott, Ali Taie, and Khadifa Wong.
