Overview

“I am waiting… If only I could find longing as sweet as you do.”

Düsseldorf 1854. When the composer Robert Schumann is committed to an asylum after a desperate suicide attempt, his virtuoso pianist wife Clara is left grieving and alone with her six children. A young family friend Johannes Brahms rushes to offer his support. What happened next has long been the subject of speculation. Clara herself later called it “an exquisite harmony of souls”.

In the latest of their acclaimed collaborations actor Christopher Kent and classical pianist Gamal Khamis return to JST, joined by actress Fenella Norman. A compelling and moving story of one of music’s great love triangles, told through the diaries, letters and sublime music of all three composers. Generously supported by Philip and Christine Carne.
