Overview
“No one is afraid, but everyone is happy.”
Everything is alright in Alya’s life. The sun is shining and spring has arrived. Her son Vanya has been “sent to the peace” and is alive and free. Alya is happy. She is optimistic about the future of her country. And yet, perhaps, none of this is true.
Echoing the societal climate in Russia, Vanya Is Alive is a chilling story of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The play explores how disinformation and propaganda shape our lives within our political systems. What happens when we turn a blind eye to the oppressive forces at play? Is denying the truth the only way to shield ourselves from fear and pain?
