Foreign Affairs and Jermyn Street Theatre are joining forces to celebrate this year’s International Translation Day
Together, we’re bringing theatre-makers, translators and industry professionals into one room to explore how translated plays reach new audiences, and what is gained, and lost, in the crossing. The afternoon opens with a hands-on workshop rooted in Foreign Affairs’ practice followed by an industry panel discussion exploring what it takes to stage plays in translation in the UK today. The day closes with an informal networking session.
You can sign up for both sessions or book separately, but workshop capacity is limited.
15:00-17:00: Workshop: Translator as Theatre-Maker
Designed for theatre practitioners – including translators, actors, directors, and dramaturgs – working at any stage of their career. We’ll explore the specific challenges of bringing a script to life across languages.
17:30-18:45: Panel Discussion and Q&A – Translation on Stage: Where We Are Now
Every translated play requires a series of quiet decisions from translators. The encounter between text, performance and audience raises crucial questions. In this discussion, we explore what it takes to stage plays in translation in the UK today.
